A DRESDEN BRONZE-INLAID WALNUT AND PARQUETRY BUREAU-CABINET
Mid-18th Century
Inlaid overall with lozenge parquetry, the scrolling broken pediment above two arched and panelled doors with shaped tops enclosing three shelves and five short drawers, flanked by canted, fluted angles, the bureau section enclosing a fitted interior with a central door enclosing three shelves flanked by seven variously-sized drawers to each side, the canted and spreading angles above the bombé lower section with three long drawers above a shaped apron and on later bun feet
51¾ in. (131 cm.) wide; 100¼ in. (255 cm.) high; 26½ in. (67 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

The commode section, with its hipped angles, as well as the outward scrolling angles flanking the sloping writing-flap of this bureau-cabinet, closely relate to a Dresden bureau-cabinet attributed to either Michael Kümmel or Johann Gottfried Borlach at Schloss Kronberg (H. Kreisel, Die Kunst des deutschen Möbels, Munich, 1970, fig. 835).
