Two warm-toned gelatiin silver prints, 18 1/8 x 11 3/8 in. and 6 15/16 x 5 1/16 in., the first signed, titled (twice) and dated in pencil with photographer's ink credit stamp A. M. Rodchenko, Moscow-centre... and collection stamp of Rodchenko and Stepanova on verso, the other inscribed 1936 in pencil on verso. (2)

Lot Essay

These prints exhibit two different interpretations of the same subject through the photographer's choice of scale, tone, texture, cropping and print contrast. The child in the picture is Rodchenko's daughter, Varvara, photographed in their apartment.
