Lot Essay

Franz Karl Rudolph von Dreyse (d.1894) was the son of Johann Nicolaus von Dreyse, inventor of the needle-fire system, who succeeded his father in 1867. The loading system was provisionally patented (No.1966) in London by John Rigby of Dublin on 8 July, 1862, and fully by George Jeffries on 9 December, 1863 (No.23300)
