1970 RILEY KESTRAL 1300 MARK II SALOON
Registration No. XYD 367H
Chassis No. RA455/Z1172M
Engine No. ZH/298F/12471
Right hand drive.
When BMC introduced their enlarged Mini, the Morris 1000 in 1962 with its transverse engine and hydrolastic suspension, this was a series of badge engineering models to incorporate the five brand names of the group. The Wolseley and Riley variants appeared in 1965 using the twin carburettor engine from the MG 1100 and identified by their appropriate traditional radiator grilles.
Riley revived the pre-war Kestral name and in its final 1969 Series II 1300 configuration was powered by the 1,275cc, 65bhp Cooper S engine and four speed gearbox, providing a very sporting performance and a cruising speed of 90mph. The Riley was the top of the range model and had a full width walnut fascia and a very comprehensive list of internal equipment.
This 1970 model is totally original and has been meticulously maintained by its first owner until 1990 and comes with a complete history of all work and journeys undertaken. It drives and looks like a new car and recently had four new tyres.
