COACHWORK BY PARK WARD
Registration No. BDF 362
Chassis No. B145FC
Engine No. D4BD
Right hand drive.
The 1933 London Motor Show introduced the first new Rolls-Royce built Bentley 3½-litre sports saloon which used a twin SU carburettor version of the Rolls-Royce 20/25 engine. Its sporting appeal and comfortable 85mph cruising speed attracted many past Bentley owners and was promoted as the Silent Sports Car.
One of the most popular body styles was the Park Ward Sports Saloon with its elegant low profile and adequate accomodation for four people. This was the ideal sporting owner driver car that could comfortably convey the family on all types of journey and this very original 1936 3½-litre is a good example.
The first owner was a Mrs Cholmeley of Wiltshire and was delivered in 1936 which coincided with the revised 4¼-litre model being introduced. This FC series chassis was one of the last built and the Park Ward body is very much in the style of the 4¼-litre model. The vehicle has five recorded keepers, and since 1961 has resided in Kent with one owner since 1983. It has been in daily use with a curent MoT and is taxed until October
This car has enormous provenance and by all accounts is totally original having been meticulously maintained by all its previous owners. The car is both mechanically and bodily very sound but could now benefit from some detailing restoration. The Park Ward Sports Saloon is such a practical and enjoyable motor car and its new owner is sure to respond to the pleasure and fun of driving such a motor car.
