A Böttger black-lacquered tapering octagonal teapot and cover
Circa 1712
With triple scroll handle and gilt-enriched bird's head moulded spout, the panel nearest the spout moulded with a gilt-enriched foliate mask, a scroll-moulded escutcheon between the handle terminals, the lower part with a band of gilt loop ornament, the shoulder with a gilt line, the domed cover with a faceted knop finial (strap support to spout lacking, restoration to bird's beak of spout, small chips to inside top rim, the cover broken across one side and re-stuck, the inside flange broken in two places, repaired and with small piece lacking, the finial a restored replacement)

Lot Essay

The Dresden Inventar of 1711 mentions a 8 passiges Thee Krugel mit dem Adler Schnaützgen. A lacquered example from the Nyffeler Collection was sold in these Rooms on June 9 1986, lot 197.
