Lot Essay

From the style of dress of the figure, and in particular the Zand style of trouser, this can be dated to the very beginning of the nineteenth century. which was at the start of the career of this artist. The style is very similar to that shown in the two secondary figures in his two large oil paintings in this sale, lots ??? and ???. It appears to be the only published figural watercolour by him.
