Captain Vivian Ernest Holland was gazetted to the 7th Hussars and joined his Regiment in India, September 1912; Lieutenant 1913; Captain 1917 and left India with his Regiment for Mesopotamia; he took part in the successful action at Khan-Baghdadie, 26 March 1918 when the 7th Hussars helped to cut off the retreat of the Turks. The Cavalry Brigade arrived on the east side of the river Tigris 26 October 1918 and on the following two days took part in the actions which resulted in the final defeat of the Turks. Captain Holland was commanding his Squadron near Hubbish when he received a gunshot wound, 28 October and succumbed from his wounds on 8 November 1918. He was buried in Baghdad North Gate Cemetery (details of the actions accompany the group)
