INDENTGeorge Edward Andrew, Master, S.S. Montebello, drowned as a result of an attack by an enemy submarine, 21 June 1918.

Ernest Cruickshank, Second Steward, S.S. Eloby (Liverpool), drowned as a result of an attack by an enemy submarine, 19 July 1917. The Eloby was carrying a full cargo of high explosive (the Elder Dempster Roll of Honour p.8 refers).

Joseph Korosky, Donkeyman, S.S. Galicia (London), was killed as a result of an attack by an enemy submarine, 10 June 1917; the Galicia did not sink.

James McFarlane, Third Engineer, S.S. Cape Finistevre (Glasgow), drowned as a result of an attack by an enemy submarine, 2 November 1917.

Thomas Arthur Powell, S.S. Cariba (London), died as a result of an attack by an enemy submarine, 21 April 1917. He was one of the survivors of the attack who drifted for eleven days in two of the ship's boats. Eleven of the men died of exposure in the boats before the remaining survivors were rescued by the French trawler Esperanza on 22 April, the day after Thomas Powell died.

Gladstone Reekie, Second Engineer, S.S. City of Lincoln (Liverpool), was killed as a result of an attack by an enemy submarine, 18 September 1917. The City of Lincoln limped into Plymouth Sound on 21 September.

Charles Conrad Ruhe, First Mate, S.S. Cape Finistevre (Glasgow), drowned as a result of an attack by an enemy submarine, 2 November 1917.

Thomas Henry Varley, Steward, S.S. Treveal (St. Ives), drowned as a result of an attack by an enemy submarine, 4 February 1918.

Wilfred John Townrow, Canteen Steward Mercantile Marine Reserve, served aboard H.M.S. India, Armed Merchant Cruiser. The India was sunk by U-22, 8 August 1915. It is most unusual for a man serving aboard a Royal Navy Ship to be awarded only the Mercantile Marine pair.
