INDENT Lieutenant Douglas Oliphant Constable, born 1890, Fife, Scotland, educated Melrose and Edinburgh University, joined the Inns of Court Officer's Training Corps February, 1915, was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in October and went to France on 29 December. Constable is mentioned no less than eight times in Vols II and III of the Grenadier Guards History especially for distinguished conduct in a support action regaining a lost trench, April 1916. He was killed instantaneously whilst leading his men in an attack on the Somme Front 25 September, 1916, was buried on the battlefield and was later transferred to the Guards Cemetery, Les Boeufs, France.
