Lot Essay

INDENT 21561 Private Alfred Hugh Morris, born, lived and enlisted in Liverpool, joined the 'Pals' in August, 1914 and went to France October, 1915; attached to the Machine Gun Corps he with other members of his gun team was specially commended for his fine work in the 'great push' on the Somme, 1 July, 1916 during a strong enemy counter-attack. He died of wounds received on the same day in the attack on Guillemont 30 July, 1916 and was buried in Dive Copse Cemetery, Sailly-le-Sanc, France

Private H. Moore enlisted 11 September, 1914 and landed in France 7 November, 1915, he was apparently wounded with the Liverpools and because of his age (44) was transferred to the Labour Corps and was discharged 23 April, 1918
