INDENTCaptain Henry George Wood, educated at Elleray, New Brighton, Yarlett Hall, Stafford, and Charterhouse joined the Public Schools Bn., Middlesex Regiment September 1914 and was commissioned Lieutenant 11th Loyal North Lancs in December; he transferred to the 3rd and then to the 1st Bn. and proceeded with the latter to France August 1915. Captain Wood was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of Loos 25 September 1915 when the 1st 'Loyals' were a 'lead Bn' in the attack - he was buried in St. Mary's A.D.S. Cemetery Haisnes, France (Liverpool's Scroll of Fame refers).
