INDENTCaptain Clifford Paul McGarry Granville, educated at Highgate School and Sandhurst, was gazetted to the Middlesex Regiment, proceeded to France November 1914 and served with the 1st Bn. at Armentieres; was appointed to the 3rd Bn. and was present at the 2nd Battle of Ypres in April 1915; as Machine Gun Officer he served at Loos and at other engagements throughout 1915; he briefly served in Egypt and Salonika from whence he was invalided to England with enteric fever; was appointed Adjutant 3/1st King's African Rifles and was killed in action, East Africa 5 May 1918. During an attack on Naroti Camp, west of Nanungu, Portuguese East Africa 5 May 1918 Captain Granville and the Officer Commanding were both killed by a maxim bullet.

Second Lieutenant Harleigh Lionel Adrian Oswald Hicks, born Clapton, Middlesex, 1890, educated Tottenham Grammar School was preparing to take Holy Orders but enlisted in the Grenadier Guards January 1916; was present during the fighting on the Somme from August and on the Scarpe from September to May the following year (wounded at Givenchy); gazetted 2nd Lieutenant, Middlesex Regiment October 1917. Captain Hicks was killed in action near Arras 12 April 1918 (Ruvigny's Roll of Honour Vol IV refers).
