INDENTCaptain Everard Nixon Buckworth Herne Soame, born 1892, educated at Newcastle-under-Lyme High School, was killed in action on the first day of the Great German Offensive, 21 March 1918 - a disastrous day for the Battalion, which was surrounded and overrun - 22 officers and 539 other ranks were casualties.

37118 Private Arthur William Roberts, born Newton, Cheshire, was wounded in action at Wolf's Gap, Baku, South Russia, 14 September 1918; was evacuated with the Force on the evening of that day and landed at Enzeli, North Persia on the following day; he died of his wounds three days later, 18 September 1918.
