Lot Essay

The Walking Lion was one of Barye's most popular models and was exhibited widely during Barye's lifetime. Nine casts were included in the Barye Monument Society in 1889, and it appears in all six Barye sales catalogues. The Barbedienne gold seal was affixed to high quality casts and editions by the celebrated foundry.
