Engraved plan of Venice on six sheets, joined, overall size 780 x 1570mm. Dedication with decorative drap and cherub surround, large compass rose, plain title set on upper border, numerous decorative ships and gondalas surrounding the Doge of Venice's Galley representing the festival of (occasional light discolouration along joins, creased along folds, some clean tears affecting lower margin and along part of lower fold, small tear with loss affecting left margin of map); together with a separate folding sheet with Scolari's four views of Venice (Ponte di Rialto; Piazza di san Marco [two views]; and galley), and two large engraved leaves of text by Scolari on the history of Venice, a portrait of the Doge and distribution of funds to the poor, then 8 pieces joined on one sheet, overall size 600 x 1600mm.
A fine copy of Merlo's reissue of Scolari's plan of Venice with the 4 inset views of Venice and text. It is interesting to note the cracks on the lower left plate and wear on the upper right plates. These plates are probably those first used by Rossi in 1650? (2)
