Lot Essay

Before Wada Isshin became a student of Ichijo, like Imai Nagatake he was trained under Fujiki Kyubei. His work well reflects the techniques of Ichijo depicting his favourite subjects of plants, flowers, birds and figures. This design is derived from his hobbies; poems and playing the gekkin. He often visited Yoshino, a well known retreat favoured by poets and famed for its beautiful maple trees in the autumn, which inspired him.
