Lot Essay

In general terms the metal workers of Kyoto had been followers of the Goto masters. Nevertheless, in time the mainline became less active, deteriorated, and faired no better than the branch lines. Because of this, when Renjo became head of the family he transferred them to Edo. However, during the Kyoho period (1716-1736), Ichinomiya Nagatsune appeared on the Kyoto kinko scene, completely revitalising it. This new look and energy lead to the support of the Otsuki, Tetsugendo and later the Goto Ichijo schools.
