A BIZEN TANTO WITH MOUNTS
Mei: Bishu Osafune Norimitsu with date Kansho rokunen nigatsu, The blade 17th Century, the mounts 19th century
The blade hirazukuri, iorimune with double grooves [futasuji-bi] to both sides, forging pattern itame, tempered edge suguha of nioi and nie, kaeri-boshi with hakikake, tang suriage with to holes, 10 7/8in. (27.7cm.) in shirasaya; with mounts of Ezo-goshirae style the saya with ishime-ji copper cover decorated with Buddhistic flowers over brocade covered wood, the extended kojiri of silvered metal partly in shakudo, the copper kanamono formed as the face of a mythical beast in place of kurikata, signed Ichiyoken Tomoshige, the cotton wrapped hilt with shakudo fuchi depicting karashishi in suemon takazogan and takabori, the silvered nanako kashira with peony in takabori, with gilt menuki of myoga and a silvered metal oval tsuba
