The Katana illegible mei, 16th century, the wakizashi mei: Tamba... and a kikumon, 17th century
The katana blade honzukuri, iori-mune, deep torii-zori with chu-gissaki, forging pattern ko-itame with ji-nie, choji-midare hamon of nioi, midare-komi boshi, 28 3/16in. (71.5cm.); the wakizashi blade honzukuri, iori-mune, shallow torii-zori with chu-gissaki, forging pattern ko-itame with ji-nie, sudare hamon of nie, chu-maru boshi, suriage nakago, 20in. (50.9cm.); both with ribbed black lacquer saya, shakudo nanako fuchi-kashira with iroe takazogan of flowers, Mino Goto, 18th century, matching iron tsuba carved with waves and decorated with dragons in shakudo takazogan, gilt details, signed Mito ju Tamagawa Yasumine, shakudo nanako kozuka with a gilt dragon (2)

Lot Essay

The part mei on the wakizashi resembles that of the 4th generation Tamba no kami Yoshimichi. The maker of the tsuba is unrecorded but their quality is such that he may well be one of the four generations of Tamegawa Yoshihisa.
