A FRENCH SMALL-SWORD with blade of hollow-triangular section, the steel hilt comprising scabbard-cap damascened in gold, knuckle-guard, side-loop enclosing a ring, rear quillon with lobe-shaped tip, and ovoidal pommel, chiselled in low relief with running foliage and cartouches framing flowers, against a gilt granular ground, and wooden grip bound with silver wire and gilt silver ribbon, circa 1760; and another, the associated blade with central fuller on each face at the forte etched 'En Toledo', the steel hilt of conventional form, finely damascened in gold with rococo scrollwork and foliage (pitted, gold incomplete, shell-guard repaired), and wooden grip bound with iron ribbon and twisted silver wire, circa 1750
