The colouring in this miniature, with its strong tones and contrasts is typical of this artist. Being a trained illuminator as well as a painter, he was fond of the gold and blue combinations seen stunningly in the tree that dominates the horizon. Also typical of this artist are the freely painted swaying trees.
He is known to have worked on other volumes in the court atelier, including a copy of the Khamsa of Nizami in the Topkapi Palace, Istanbul. This includes 42 miniatures by him, one of which is signed. This signature enables the Houghton miniatures by 'Painter C' to be identified as his work. His contribution to this superb volume of Firdowsi for Shah Tahmasp represents the best paintings that he produced.
