2° (545 x 355mm.). Half-title, 72 hand-coloured etchings by Gremilliet and Martinet after Pauline Decourcelles (i.e. Madame Knip), printed by Rousset and Millevoy. (Occasional marginal soiling and light spotting, especially to preliminary text pages and to 19 of the plates; some inkstains on plate 57 and very slight paint spotting on plate 66; small part of outer corner lacking from text page facing plate 57.) Modern red half morocco, uncut (slightly rubbed). Provenance: Frances Mary Richardson Currer (armorial bookplate).

Whereas the plates of this edition were printed in colour, THIS COPY IS HAND-COLOURED THROUGHOUT. A copy of the Tangaras incorporating a set of the plates printed in black and white was sold in the Jeanson sale (Sotheby's Monaco, 16 June 1988, lot 25.) Frances Richardson Currer, was the outstanding English woman collector of the 19th century; her library was sold at Sotheby's in July and August 1862.
