(Some leaves slightly browned, some with dust-soiling.) Original French red morocco, triple gilt fillet round sides, spine gilt in compartments with floral sprays and other small tools (lightly scuffed), g.e. Provenance: C.F.G.R. Schwerdt (engraved bookplate).
FIRST FRENCH EDITION. A translation of Ray's Synopsis Methodica Avium, published posthumously, with considerable additions by Salerne. ONE OF A FEW SPECIAL COPIES ISSUED BY THE PUBLISHER WITH THE PLATES HAND-COLOURED AND BOUND IN MOROCCO, as advertised in the "Avertissement". There are inscriptions on plates 11 and 27 identifying the colourist as Jac. De Favane. Nissen 757; Zimmer p.501; Cohen/de Ricci 854.; Keynes Ray 106; Wood 530.
