I have I believe been fortunate enought to be mentioned in the Official despatches. The all say that I ought to get the V.C. for saving young Smith's life at the risk of my own. I do not know myself whether I deserve it.

Note:
Leet served with Wood's Column throughout the war. He commanded the natives attached to the force, "Woods Irregulars", and commanded the corps in the storming the Intombi Valley stronghold and the assault on Hlobane. He was repeatedly mentioned in despatches.
Lieutenant A. Metcalfe Smith was an officer of the Frontier Light Horse.
