A MOMOYAMA CHURCH-STYLE CHEST, the front, top and sides richly decorated in aogai and brown and gold lacquer with medallions containing confronting tigers, ho-o in flight above figures crossing a bridge in a river landscape and autumnal flowers and grasses, all on a ground of scatterd aogai within shippo-hanabishi pattern borders, the back with scrolling foliage, the front opening to reveal twelve drawers of varying sizes decorated with birds, bird-scarers and fans among willow, bamboo, paulownia, wisteria and chrysanthemums, each with gilt metal chrysanthemum knob, gilt metal carrying handle, lockplate and hinges (some old wear and damage), Momoyama period (1573-1603)
