NAPOLEON I. Three unpublished letters signed ('Np') to the Duke of Feltre, Paris, 18 January 1811 (two) and Fontainebleau, 20 January 1813, the first commenting on proposals for the reorganisation of regiments, 'Les milles hommes aux 6 Regimens d'artillerie à cheval ne me semblent pas necessaires, leur ayant accordé 1800 hommes montés et equipés par les Departemens', one page, 4°; the second referring to a decree for the recruitment of light cavalry for his Guard ('chasseurs à cheval de ma Garde') to be selected only from certain divisions, a proviso not mentioned in the decree 'pour ne point faire de la peine aux departemens qui ne doivent point en fournir', one page, 4°; the third announcing the appointment of an aide-de-camp, and giving instructions to grant retirement to two other officers of the Guard, one page, 4°, contemporary annotations attached to lower margins.
The letters of 18 January are from a series on the reorganisation of the army after the Russian campaign, and refer to the regiments offered to Napoleon by towns and Departments. The commune of Paris had offered 500 chasseurs. (3)
