The case with typical foliate-tied gilt-metal handle to the domed top applied with gilt-metal mounts cast with cherubs flanking a mask with basket of flowers above, the glazed sides with small pierced ebony sound frets, the base on block feet, the 7¾ by 6¾ inch dial signed Tho:Tompion, Londini Fecit beneath the silvered chapter ring with peirced blued steel hands, the finely matted centre with calendar and mock pendulum apertures, winged cherub spandrels to the lower quadrants with foliate spandrels above, subsidiary silvered rings for pendulum regulation and strike/silent centred with finely engraved foliage, similar engraving to the centre above XII, latches to the six ringed pillar movement with twin fusees, re-built verge escapement, pull quarter repeat on Tompion's system via two blued steel (single cocked) interlocking levers, the backplate profusely engraved with scolling foliage within formalised strapwork and signed in a central cartouche Tho: Tompion, Londini Fecit and numbered at the base 171 above the scored line border.
