The scene on the first vase is derived from a print, Le Pasteur Galant, after Boucher, engraved by Laurent in 1742; this was created as a group by J. J. Kändler for manufacture in porcelain at Meissen. See K. Butler, Meissner Porzellanplastik des 18. Jahrhunderts, pl. XI, for the print, and ibid., pl. 253, for a Meissen example in the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg; see also Dr. Erika Pauls-Eisenbeiss, German Porcelain of the 18th Century, Vol. I, p. 255
