Lot Essay

Here again we find the jewelled ribbon "roses" worn by the the Winter Queen and her mother, which would make an identification as Elizabeth of Bohemia more probable than Arabella Stuart, which was Williamson's identification in the Pierpont Morgan catalogue. The restoration of very slight damage about the border may have encouraged an alteration of part of the date, which is likely to have been 1610
