Lot Essay

Jardinière stands of this form, manufactured by the eminent Edinburgh cabinet-maker William Trotter (d.1833) for Yester House, East Lothian about 1815, may have been inspired by a stand illustrated in George Smith's Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1808.
