A VIENNA-STYLE CIRCULAR DISH painted by Opitz in the manner of Angelica Kauffmann with a scene entitled Schmückung der Venus, the goddess wearing scant drapery, seated on a terrace with columns, accompanied by three hand-maidens attending to her dress and bringing a basket of flowers, Cupid at her side and with a jewel-casket and flowers at their feet, with mountains beyond, the claret border reserved with pale-blue and pink lappet-shaped cartouches enclosing gilt animals in vignettes divided by broad bands (gilding very rubbed), signed, blue beehive mark, black script, circa 1900
