Engraved portrait of the Duke of Gloucester (spotted), 79 hand-coloured plates, including 64 aquatint views by Stadler, Havell, Bluck and others after Pugin, Mackenzie, Westall and others, 15 stipple and line engraved costume plates. (Half-titles lacking, some offsetting of plates onto text.) Contemporary red straight-grained morocco, lavishly tooled in gilt and blind, g.e. (neatly rebacked with old spines laid down). Provenance: William Frederick Webb (armorial bookplate).
A fine set watermarked 1812-1813, but without the 16 founders plates: these were an optional extra as the "Arrangement of the Plates... with or without the Founders" leaf in vol. I makes clear. Abbey Scenery 80; Tooley 4. (2)
