A CREAM-GROUND OIL-LAMP IN THE RENAISSANCE STYLE, the slender stem with multiple knops moulded in relief with horizontal bands of flower-heads, zig-zags and acanthus and lappets enclosing bosses, below a shallow waisted-cylindrical bowl fitted with the retainer and moulded with cartouches of cherubs flanking scrolling foliage, divided by grotesque masks within scroll and anthemion cartouches, the lower stem of globular form, moulded with lions' masks and fixed ring cartouches suspending swags of laurel tied with lilac ribbon, supported on a strapwork base moulded with satyrs' masks, on a fixed triangular plinth moulded on each face with fronds of foliage, the corners with three satyr supporters, their wings suspending scroll cartouches enclosing bosses, on three paw feet, the moulded details enriched in turquoise and a gilt lustre, with a gilt-metal mount, a yellow and pink Burmese glass globular shade and a glass chimney (restoration to retainer), purple printed marks, date code for 1893
