Lot Essay

The tablet-centred and fluted frieze on tapering 'herm' legs with reeded oval foot features on tables supplied by Thomas Chippendale (d.1779) to Harewood House, Yorkshire around 1770 (see: C.Musgrave, Adam and Hepplewhite Furniture, London, 1966, figs. 107 and 112)
However, a more likely source are two sideboard patterns illustrated in A.Hepplewhite and Co., The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, London, 1788, pls. 25 and 27
