A George III quarter chiming mahogany longcase clock, the case on typical bracket feet with shaped panel to the plinth front flanked by stop-chamfered reeded angles, the trunk with shaped door and original foliate escutcheon flanked by reeded ¼-columns on quoined plinths, the hood with similar detached columns supporting the swan-neck pediment with foliate painted frieze and surmounted by ball-and-spire finials with central Athena mask, the dial signed Brandreth Middlewich on the silvered chapter ring, the matted centre with foliate engraving with subsidiary seconds and calendar aperture, pierced blued hands, foliate cherub spandrels, rolling painted moonphase in the arch, the six pillar rack striking movement chiming on six bells with hour strike on further bell, anchor escapement
