A PAIR OF CONTINENTAL PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOLS with blued octagonal sighted rifled barrels (blueing worn in places) signed 'Ad Jansen Arquebusier Du Roi A Bruxelles' on the top flat, case-hardened breeches and breech tangs numbered 1 and 2 in gold and engraved with foliage and rocailles, the former with blued adjustable back-sights, the locks (one hammer retaining screw replaced) and mounts en suite and retaining their original dull grey finish, the last including spurred trigger-guards and baluster pommels, figured walnut half-stocks carved with foliage in relief against a stippled ground on the fore-ends, fluted butts, and nearly all their original finish: in original fitted brass-mounted rosewood veneered case lined in red velvet with full accessories, the lid (cracked) with brass flush-fitting carrying handle and brass escutcheon engraved 'de la Chapelle', St. Etienne proof marks, circa 1845
