The banded rectangular top with pierced three-quarter gallery inset with a green leather-lined writing-surface, to the centre with a concealed purplewood-lined well, above a trellised frieze and a kneehole flanked to each side by a drawer inlaid with a simulated tablet, the right drawer fitted with a removable small tray and formerly with a coffre-fort, each side with a concealed well above the drawer, on square breakfronted tapering legs terminating in upturned stiff-leaf caps, stamped to the underside 'J.H.RIESENER', adapted, probably from a tric-trac table

Lot Essay

Jean-Henri Riesener, maître in January 1768.

The ebony and boxwood trellis-parquetry and foliate sabots feature elsewhere in Riesener's oeuvre, such as on the writing-table branded by the Garde-Meuble Royal, sold anonymously, Adjer Tajan, 18 March 1980, lot 144 aswell as on the writing-table sold anonymously in these Rooms, 1 December 1983, lot 39.
