Lot Essay

Antonio Jacobsen painted three versions of the Fidelia, a fully rigged ship of the Black Ball Line out of New York City. Fidelia was built in 1845 by William H. Webb. Of the three Fidelias, two are oils and one is an oil sketch, all were painted in or about 1916. See Sniffen, Antonio Jacobsen: The Checklist (New York, 1984), pp. 120-121.
