A GERMAN HUNTING SWORD with watered double-edged blade (areas of slight pitting) of flattened diamond section etched and gilt on both sides with foliage, trophies of arms, and a panel containing stags and hinds in a landscape, cast and chased ormolu hilt with short scrolled downcurved quillons, shell-guard with rococo border and decorated in relief with a hound and game in a landscape, the grip decorated with rococo ornament and flowering fronds, the pommel with lion's mask on one side, all against a granular ground, in original brown leather-covered wooden scabbard (leather slightly damaged) with ormolu locket and chape, the former en suite with the hilt, the latter with lion's mask frog-hook, and with cloth-covered leather belt (damaged) embroidered with metal thread, circa 1860
