Lot Essay

The bold columnar legs, with patera and tablet enriched seat-rail; and the Grecian-scrolled back relate to chair patterns in Thomas King, Modern Style of Cabinet Work Exemplified, 1829. The splat appears to be a stylised version of the Grecian-lyre form illustrated in Henry Whitaker's Designs of Cabinet and Upholstery Furniture in the Most Modern Style, 1825
