Lot Essay

Another, more roughly finished version of the present bronze was in the Bischoffsheim Collection in 1908; its current whereabouts are unknown (loc.cit.). An attribution to the Brescian sculptor Maffeo Olivieri has been suggested, largely on the basis of the figure's lively, dancing attitude.
