Note: This is the second of the two such known letters (see lot 24 for the other) from a correspondence discovered in 1984. The letter includes, "this climate agrees badly with me and I fear the hardships of a private soldier if not very soon at least will prove fatal to me. There is upwards of 300 of our Batallion died since we came here". The letter concludes with a reference to Major Scott (the writer of the letter in lot 25).
