Lot Essay

This portrait is based on a painting by J. Williams, and the face is taken from portraits by Dupra. Versions of it are in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, at Thornbury Castle and in Viscount Powerscourt's collection (see D. Nicholson, Portraits of Bonnie Prince Charlie. 1973, pp.20-23, illus, nos. A and D).
