Broadsheets (549 x 760mm). Titles and text in German and French. Two lithographic titles by Johann E. Mettenleiter, 10 tinted lithographic views by Gaertner, 6 lithographic plans and elevations, after Gaertner by Anton Falger, all printed by Zeller. (German title lightly soiled and with repaired tear to lower margin, plates 2-4 of the measured plans with small neatly repaired tears to margins.) These impressive plates are among the earliest series of commercially published lithographs. The views depict the famous Greek architectural remains to be found in Sicily, generally with human figures in the foreground. The artist travelled in Italy and Sicily from 1815 to 1817. As the chief architect to King Ludwig I of Bavaria, he accompanied him on his Greek journey in 1835. Berlin Kat. 1913.
