Large oblong 2° (390 x 592mm). Letterpress table of contents bound in at end. Etched title and 50 plates of the villas of Tuscany after Zocchi by Giuseppe Benedetti, Fabio Berardi, Matteo Carboni, Marco Antonio Corsi, Philotée-François Duflos, Giuseppe Filosi, Vincenzo Franceschini, Giuliano Giampiccoli, Michele Marieschi, Niccolo Mogalli, Pietro Monaco, Filippo Morghen, Johann Sebastian Müller, Remigius Parr, Giovanni-Battista Piranesi, Johann Gottfried Seuter, and Giuseppe Wagner. (Small neatly repaired tears to blank margins of the title and the Villa Pozzolatico plate, one small tear to blank margin of another plate, occasional light spreading of red speckling of edges onto margins of a few plates). Contemporary sheep, spine gilt with two lettering-pieces (small neat repairs to head and foot of spine).

A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION. The plates show Tuscan villas set amidst gardens and the surrounding landscape. The scenes are enlivened by human and animal activity, often of a humorous nature (a man fights to control his cloak whilst his hat is whisked away by a Tuscan hill-top wind). A second edition was published by Giuseppe Bouchard in 1754. Cf. Berlin Kat. 2701 (citing third edition of 1757).
