Lot Essay

The sitter, a keen supporter of the Jacobite cause, married Mary, daughter of James Drummond, 4th Earl of Perth, circa 1690. He was succeeded by his son George, also a staunch Jacobite, as 9th Earl Marischal (1693-1778).
