FIRST AUTHORIZED EDITION of Denham's celebrated topographical poem in heroic couplets, the first to contain the famous apostrophe descriptive of the River Thames which was admired by Dryden, Pope and Samuel Johnson. The present edition was intended to correct the imperfect pirated editions published from 1642, which constituted "mere repetitions of the same False Transcript, which stole into print by the Author's long absence from this Great Town" (To the Reader).
