The 280SE 3.5-litre was introduced in 1969 as both a coupe and convertible. It was the ultimate in luxury with wood and leather work trim reminicent of the earlier hand built cars. Performance was quite remarkable for a four or five seater car, with 0-60mph in under 10 seconds and a top speed of 125mph. This model had an iron block aluminium head V8 used in the forthcoming 350SL range.

This car was originally owned by Lord Hood, Chairman of Wimpy and it subsequently passed to its present owner. The car has driven approximately 89,000 miles and has always been garaged. The oil has been changed regularly and the engine seems to be strong. There is a current MoT and the car will drive from London to Beaulieu for the sale. The near side electric window is not working and there is some bubbling on the near side wing. Externally the car is fine, but the interior is in a very poor state - it has been "chewed" by the family pet and will need replacing.
