The Bentley Mk VI was launched in May 1946 and in comparison to its pre-war counterparts was an entirely new departure both in engineering and design. It was to set the basis of all future models. The car was compact in design and very much for the owner/driver. The 4¼-litre engine gave a healthy 135bhp at 4,000rpm with brisk acceleration from 0-50 in 12 seconds and a top speed of over 100mph.
Although designed for a standard body, it was still possible to obtain a chassis only from Crewe, but the numbers sold were very few. Those that were purchased were delivered to the recognised UK coachbuilders such as H.J. Mulliner and Hooper. This particular example went to James Young and was delivered to Mr A.S. Butler.
This car has been stripped to bare metal revealing some rust pits on the bonnet. The cream leather seats have been removed but are still with the car. Repair work has been carried out on the wooden frame to make the doors fit and some of the other woodwork has been treated. There is a crack in the windscreen. The car has not been used for three or four years and although dismantled is believed to be basically complete.
